Finish your narrative (let me know if you want additional feedback) and print out a hard copy for class on Friday - Don't forget to bring your IR books! Due Wed. 9/24:
- Complete the outline of your narrative/personal statement in preparation for working on the essay in class Due Wed:
For each of the vocabulary words, write a definition, part of speech and original sentence: - avatar - disapprobation - habiliment - sagacious - pestilence - voluptuous In preparation for the in-class assessment, review the paragraph structure we've learned and how to properly integrate quotes. You will need to know what theme, tone and figurative language are. Due Fri 9/12:
After reading the excerpt from Black Boy (and highlighting/circling words/phrases that suggest tone or the author's feelings), develop a theme statement (what is the author's message about being human?). Below your theme, complete 2 Q/CM t-charts. For the commentary of each quote, be sure to discuss both how the quote supports your theme statement as well as how the author's feelings are communicated in the quote. Due Wed. 9/10:
Write your own version of "The Long Rain" - Pick a different weather element and write a structured description of that weather (use the original and replace descriptive phrases with those of your own making) Due Fri. 9/5: - Type up the Rainsford characterization paragraph - remember to keep the same structure as the graphic organizer. Also make sure all quotations are integrated - refer to your handout from class or review the PPt for guidelines. - Read "A Sound of Thunder" (starts on p. 498) and write a summary paragraph (5-8 sentences) - Bring your IR book and prepare for a quiz on "Marigolds" and "Most Dangerous Game"
